89/365 - Chicken Adobo

89/365 c2 - Chicken Adobo

30 March 2010

We planned to do a meat diet for the whole Holy Week, but then again, we realized that we had some meats in the fridge, and that if we don't cook it within the week, it might not be as fresh anymore. So, we decided to put thaw out the remaining chicken, and I cooked adobo out of it.

For the longest time, I have had a hard time cooking adobo, until early this year, when I tried sauteeing the ingredients first before simmering it. Now, I can say I have already found my way of cooking the dish, and on Day 89, I was able to cook the best tasting adobo I could ever produce. Was finally able to hit the good mix of saltiness and sourness, and paired with the garlic rice, it's just a wonderful feat.

One item in the bucket list crossed out. :)

88/365 - Tiny Plants

88/365 c2 - Tiny Plants

29 March 2010

While eating breakfast, mom talked to me about the idea of going to the mall to buy this rechargeable insect swatter. I surely didn't want my mom to wander around alone, so I went with her. We were walking inside the mall when I saw a kiosk that sells these tiny plants, and thought they looked cute. As a fan of repetitive patterns, I asked mom to wait for me a bit as I take pictures.

Not a good capture as struggled a bit with my camera. Somehow, when the battery has flashed the low battery signal, it's becoming too difficult to focus already, so this was the only thing I captured. Better luck next time, Jenn.

87/365 - Palm

87/365 c2 - Palm

28 March 2010

Day 87 is Palm Sunday, and I did plan to go to a bigger church where there were more people (hence more images to take pictures of), but somehow I wasn't able to. In the end, I just had to content myself taking pictures of our own palm. :)

Mom got to buy this palm from a vendor walking around the neighborhood. It wasn't as pretty as the palms being sold in the market, but I guess I just had to take a cue on its simplicity. I tried different angles, but as the sun goes down, I hoped to get a silhouette shot of it. However, the sun was a bit too bright, and when I took this picture, the sun ray hit the glass window where I placed the palm giving out a bright rays of light. Being a fan of the sun flare, I found this a little cute.

It's the start of the Holy Week for us Catholics... may we have a blessed, and reflective week ahead.

86/365 - Earth Hour 2010

86/365 c2 - Earth Hour 2010

27 March 2010

It's the third year that the Philippines joined Earth Hour, but in the first two years of it I wasn't able to take part because I was not at home. So when I found out that I didn't win tickets to Timbaland's concert (scheduled today), I just told myself "at least I could take part of Earth Hour."

As soon as the clock turned 8:30PM, I took the candelabra outside and lit up its candles. There weren't much to do, so I just took pictures of "darkness" before I updated my planner. Not all houses in our neighborhood joined the Earth Hour, but if an hour of no lights meant something good, then I am happy to be doing it.

85/365 - Little White Flowers

85/365 c2 - White Flowers

26 March 2010

As someone who tends our garden every day, seeing new blooms makes me happy. So when one of the hanging plants we started having flowers, I didn't want to let the moment pass that I didn't take at least a picture of it. I don't know what this plant is called, but it has thin spiky leaves. There weren't that much flowers as of the moment, but whenever this plant has a lot of flowers, I would always smell a little hint of milk in it.

84/365 - Dinner at KKK

84/365 c2 - Dinner at KKK

25 March 2010

Day 84 was my mom's eye operation as well as my sister's dayoff from work. Mom's operation was actually an out-patient procedure, so she asked sister and I to come meet her and brother by lunch time at the mall. Sister and I got there in time for lunch, but mom sent a text message that they will be coming late because they still had to process some papers regarding the operation.

After having some crepes, which served as our lunch, sister and I roamed around the mall and checked out the new food places, so we would know where we would eat at next time. We passed by KKK and loved how the place looked like, so when the whole family met and did the grocery, we asked if we could have early dinner (which is also late lunch for sister and I) at the said food place.

We had Sisig ng Pampanga, Beef Kare-Kare, and Grilled Tuna Belly for dinner. It's a little tradition for me to take a picture of my food bearing the place's name, and since I already did a Kare-Kare toppings back then, I just used a slice of the tuna belly for my tradition shot. My verdict about the whole dining experience? 5 out of 5 spoons.

83/365 - Shower Time

83/365 c2 - Shower Time

24 March 2010

I took in different pictures as part of my photo for the day, but come nighttime, when I was about to write in my planner, I realized that it was a Wednesday, and I had to do a self portrait! I am starting to ran out of ideas, so I just said to myself I will be taking my night shower to think it over. As the water hits my body, I reminisced the time I did the "water and light" series, but none of those pictures featured my face. So I took my cell phone, and started to do part two of the "water and light" series.

I tried different angles and shots, but since I had to save up on water, as soon as I took this picture and liked it, I already stop. I don't really mean to get all x-rated, good thing my hair was long enough to cover the things I needed to cover.

82/365 - Dinengdeng

82/365 c2 - Dinengdeng

23 March 2010

My mom loves malunggay. For Day 82, she requested for us to cook dinengdeng with malunggay since we still have some left over fried fish in the fridge. We decided to have papaya-malunggay dinengdeng for dinner, which is one of my favorite dinengdeng.

If you're interested how this is cooked, it's just plain and simple. Boil in enough water with fish bagoong and gingerroot, then add the young papaya slices. Add in the fried fish and malunggay, simmer for a minute, cover and turn off the stove and give it a few time for the veggies to cook in its own heat. Who says dinner should be complicated?

81/365 - Pooh Train

81/365 c2 - Pooh Train

22 March 2010

I was hit by the Monday blues. I just wasn't in the mood this day - maybe because the back still hurts and I am getting so annoyed and disappointed that it's still not healing. It was difficult for me to move and function 100%, so in a way this ailment put a little halt on the things I do.

This Pooh train was part of the McDonalds Happy Meal, which we loved to collect back when things were still less expensive. These toys were on top of our television, and since I spend nighttimes watching television as I update my planner, I decided to just take pictures of it. I am not a big fan of the cartoons, I don't even know the story of Winnie the Pooh, but they do make a nice decor in the house.
